Patriots and Packers Kick Off on Sunday for Prostate Cancer

Are you ready for some football? The New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers will go head to head this Sunday (Dec. 19), and will take measures to raise awareness about prostate cancer. It’s not the first time the Patriots Charitable Foundation has done something like this.

Former Patriots cornerback, NFL Hall of Famer and prostate cancer survivor Mike Haynes is behind the Know Your Stats campaign, urging men to get tested.

“It is critical that men have the tools they need to understand prostate cancer risk factors and engage in dialogue with their doctors,” Haynes said in a press release.

“Like many other men I know, prostate cancer was the farthest thing from my mind and I had no idea just how common it is … Now, I want to do what I can to get men and their loved ones talking and to help them fully understand the facts about this disease.”

One in every six men will be diagnosed in their lifetime and 32,000 Americans will die this year from prostate cancer. While you’re drinking beer and rooting for your favorite team this Sunday, let it also be a reminder to talk to your doctor (or remind loved ones who have prostates to do so).
