Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem Tie the Knot

penelope_cruz_javier_bardem.jpgPenelope Cruz and Javier Bardem are Married!

It’s wedding season! Emily Blunt and John Krasinski tied the knot this past weekend in Italy, and Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher were married in Georgia on July 11. Now, word comes that the beautiful inside and out Cruz and Bardem, who have managed to keep their high-profile relationship under wraps since they met in 1992 (although they reportedly did not start dating until 2007, according to People), were married earlier this month at a friend’s house in the Bahamas. According to Cruz’s rep, the ceremony was for family members only. We wish all the couples much health and happiness, and the Cruz-Bardem covert relationship/wedding will hopefully serve as the plot of Pedro Almodóvar’s next film.

Now that the curtain has come down on the national obsession known as The Hills (I couldn’t look away, could you?), the most level-headed cast member, Lo Bosworth, is using her reputation as the group’s most grounded member to do some much-needed good. She’s starting The Lo Down, a website for women in their late teens and early twenties that promises to be “a guide to fashion, relationships, the good life and everything in between.” Bosworth promises to speak candidly about issues relating to females in her age group, and the site will also feature posts from guest bloggers. Bosworth also told MTV.com that she has a relationship guide for girls by the same name coming out in January, and she is also “transitioning immediately into hosting” — she has a deal with a production company in the works.

The teen queen is already an acting and singing sensation who still manages to spend her free time giving back. Now, the trendsetter and UNICEF ambassador is gearing up for the launch of her first clothing line at Kmart. The line, which is called Dream Out Loud, is made from eco-friendly fabrics in factories with established sustainability practices. A portion of proceeds from clothing sales will go to UNICEF. The line launches in stores on July 15, but some pieces can already be ordered online at Kmart.com.

phoenix_crop.jpgPhoenix Gives Desk-Side Concert at NPR

This one just makes us smile. The band whose hit song “Lisztomania” has the Pavlovian response of making you think of Cadillacs (well done, advertisers), stopped by NPR offices to be a part of their Tiny Desk Concert series. Normally, the concerts involve a relatively small audience gathering around NPR Music host Bob Boilen’s desk, but when Phoenix is in the building giving a free desk-side concert, “Senior VPs reschedule executive meetings. Employees smuggle in their spouses, roommates and children. Replies to the all-staff email include such written exclamations as “OMG,” “ZOMG” and “omg!!!!!!!!!!”
