Picture This: A Farm Aid Photo Contest

Oh, the great American family farm.

John Mellencamp (he took the “Cougar” out years ago, people) sang about it, and he and friends like Willie Nelson and Neil Young are trying to protect it.

Farm Aid has launched an online photo contest (Mellencamp’s wife, Elaine Irwin Mellencamp, who appeared in his sexy start-of-their-love-affair “Get a Leg Up” video, is of the judges) to help raise money for the organization, which helps keep family farms in business and keep farm families on their land.

The 2009 Farm Aid concert fundraiser is Oct. 4 in St. Louis, so click here to read more about that.

In the meantime, get your photos ready of anything and everything that celebrates the great family farm. That could mean the produce you bought at a farmer’s market; your own bee colony that you’re keeping, a barn, a cow, a tractor or whatever it is that resonates with you (and hopefully the judges) as the keeping these all important agricultural assets afloat. The contest runs through Sept. 20.

The winner will receive an expenses-paid trip and two front row tickets to the Farm Aid concert.

Cue Whiskey River and start snapping!
