Prince Charles Launches Eco-Festival in London

charles.jpgPrince Charles, a keen nature enthusiast and green campaigner is on a mission to make eco-consciousness easy and enjoyable. To kick things off, he’s hosting his own eco-festival in London next month.

Writing in Britain’s Daily Telegraph on Saturday, the Prince of Wales shared his views and concerns while giving away a few of his personal tips for a sustainable but practical lifestyle, that anyone can adopt. “It is about putting a positive face on what I can only call a Sustainability Revolution,” he wrote, adding: “showing people that it is possible both to enjoy life and to protect nature.”

Part of his Start initiative which launched in February, the festival, called A Garden Party to Make a Difference will run for 12 days in September and take place in the grounds of the royal residence, Clarence House as well as neighboring gardens. “A remarkably talented team of curators from the worlds of music, comedy, debate and the environment will be helping us create an event that will, I hope, be entertaining, enjoyable and informative,” wrote the heir to the British monarch in the article. The public will be able to pick up a few tips from the green-fingered royal whose vegetable patch will be displayed at the event and designer Vivienne Westwood will be discussing all things eco-fashion related.

The idea is that being eco-friendly can be fun. Backed by major supermarket chains and domestic utilities groups in the UK, the royal hopes that it will encourage festival-goers to think of the positive aspects of sustainability. “Looking after our small, fragile and stressed planet is not about doom and gloom, sitting in the dark or not having nice things. Rather, it is perfectly possible that taking action can help to create more attractive communities. And that it is possible to have fun on the way.”

news_1.jpgShowing that he practices what he preaches, the Prince says he recycles bath water for the garden and even turns old curtain material into fashionable shopping bags (could a royal eco-fashion line be on the cards we wonder?) From starting an allotment, keeping chickens in the yard to simply eating seasonally, the prince believes that everyone in the world can do something to contribute to a healthier, happier, fuller life, whilst caring for the environment. Sounds good to us!
