Put Your 40 Cents to Good Use

christy1.jpgCan we make it three for three? When we wrote about Constance McMillen, our community helped us raise $30,000 to send her to college. When we wrote about Alyson Myatt, we raised $20,000 to cover her medical treatments.

Now, our friends at (RED) are premiering a documentary called The Lazarus Effect (previewed below). We’ve written about Gwen Stefani and other celebrities’ involvement, and here’s a great interview with director Lance Bangs, who worked on Where the Wild Things Are and Jackass (no kidding).

Here’s how we can help. The PSA is great — bunch of celebs (below), including Bono, Christy Turlington, Julianne Moore, Dakota Fanning and Don Cheadle talking about what they got for 40 cents. Jane Lynch from Glee got helium. Julia Louis-Dreyfus got a mustache. Why 40 cents? The two pills a day a person with HIV needs to stay alive cost that much each day. That’s it.

Well, what clever things could you buy for 40 cents? Enter them into our thoughtbubble at the top of the page, share your answer on Facebook and see what other folks have to say here.

And, in true Tonic spirit, let’s see how many people can donate 40 cents — or more — to (RED). Proceeds go to The Global Fund for HIV. Spread the word and don’t forget to update your Facebook status with what you would buy to 40 cents, and link that to the (RED) donation page.

Have a great day.
