Getting Soaked in Slovakia

Just because you’re in Europe, it doesn’t mean it has to be all cathedrals, castles and town squares.

Located about 10 miles outside Bratislava, Cunovo provides a recreational break from all the traditional tourist activities, and it’s the perfect way for guys to get revenge on the girlfriend that made them visit all 5,000 worship houses in what’s supposed to be godless ex-Soviet states. Ladies love getting river water in their hair!

Accessible by bus, bike and car, Action Land offers Cunovo whitewater rafting in both a six-seat and two-seat raft on treks that can last as long as two and a half hours. Costs, which range from $35 to $100 per person, naturally include an instructor and all the gear you’ll need. And if you want to get even wetter, there are hydrospeed rafts that zip you down the river by boat and fins. Other water activities include jet skiing and motor boating.

For those wanting more than a little whitewater action, Cunovo’s got it. In the neighboring forest, there’s a giant paintball compound with barriers, ditches and lots of bushy green for those wanting to make like Rambo. Though you’ll want to play outside whenever possible, there is also an indoor compound for when weather gets nasty, particularly in the winter. Other non-water activities include off-road go-karts and ATVs on a 3,000-foot track. Some vehicles include two seats for multiple riders.

To make things easy, the complex offers mini-bus transit from Bratislava’s city center, and there is a hotel available nearby. Of course, all this action will make you hungry, and you can choose between some outdoor barbecue grilling or chow down on a floating restaurant. Not bad options, if I do say so myself.
