Raw Beauty

raw essentialsAdmit it: Somewhere in your house, tucked in the back of the medicine cabinet or linen closet, there’s something you ordered while watching an infomercial at 3 a.m. Whether it’s a Snuggie, Pedi-Egg, or an unused bottle of wrinkle cream, it’s hard to resist the impulse to buy via the small-screen … particularly when you’re half asleep and eating a big bowl of “midnight snack” ice cream.

But not everything you buy on television has to be a guilty pleasure. The Home Shopping Network (HSN), for example, stocks plenty of items to feel good about, like sustainable bamboo socks and end tables made from wood reclaimed from demolished houses. If you have the will power to refrain from dialing an 800 number in the middle of the night, everything’s also available on HSN’s website.

If you’re looking for guilt-free beauty products, HSN has you covered. The company recently launched a new exclusive brand, Raw Essentials, that’s essentially beauty’s answer to the raw food movement. Every formula is prepared with natural oils that are heated at a very low temperature to maximize and preserve their inherent beneficial properties. As you’d expect, the line is without petrochemicals, glycols, sulfates, parabens and artificial colorants. And — like many other natural beauty collections — ingredients like orange and lemon oil make these products smell great without any chemically-produced perfumes.

Raw Essentials includes items for the face and body; the entire line, even products like Raw-Finish rigorous face scrub, is gentle enough for even sensitive skin.

It’s got to be mentioned that the creator of the line is former model Carol Alt, a proponent of raw foods for 15 years. She developed the line to offer topical skin care that is in sync with what she puts inside her body. Alt is well into her 40s and simply looks amazing. And her skin does indeed look wrinkle-free and supple.

If these products can make us all look as good as Alt does, they might be worth considering purchasing by the bucketload. Just brace yourself for what the HSN “bucketloads” shipping charge might be …

Raw Essentials is available on HSN.com.
