These Orgs Done Good

It’s nice to be recognized for doing good work. It’s even better when business magazines recognize organizations for their ability to make money and spend it in innovative, exciting and positive ways. I was tickled when I heard about Fast Company magazine’s 10 Best Social Enterprises of 2009. The list has been out for a couple of weeks, but it’s forward-focused on 10 companies and organizations that already have a good track record and are primed to make a big difference this year. Here’s the full set of stories and an accompanying slideshow gallery.

Here are the orgs that made the list:

  • Enterprise Community Partners (the magazine’s top pick)
  • Do Something
  • Mercy Corps
  • The Academy for Urban School Leadership
  • DataDyne
  • Civic Ventures
  • The Institue for OneWorld Health
  • The Acumen Fund
  • Husk Power Systems
  • Hopelab

We promise to keep you up-to-date with progress that these shining stars make during 2009 right here at Tonic News. Be sure to check them out, and let me know of any social enterprises about which we should report that didn’t make this list.
