In between “Idol” and “Lost” and whatever else is on TV these days, it’s not the shows that are catching my attention. Instead, it’s the ads.
Sony is running an ad campaign — at least in my area — in which they’re recycling their old ads from the 80s. “Sony, the One and Only.” Remember those?
The vintage ads are being recycled to draw attention to Sony-sponsored electronics recycling events around the country. There’s an event happening on March 28 in my ‘hood, at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, Calif.
My familiarity with the parking lot at Shoreline begins and ends with dreadlocked hippies selling veggie burritos and Pale Ales (not to mention other sundry and sometimes illegal items) prior to Grateful Dead shows. On the 28th, it’ll be transformed into a recycling faire. Cool.
I digress.
The Sony ads are fun ways to draw attention to the importance of electronics recycling. I’m probably preaching to the choir, but if you have old electronics — whether they’re Sony televisions or not — recycle them! Chucking them in the trash is bad for you, bad for me, and bad for the hippies.
Check out one of the ads below, and visit Sony’s website for more information about the program and to find out when and where a recycling event may be happening near you.
