Montreal-based nonprofit Yellow Bird Project (YBP) has created a fun little coloring book that is all things indie. YBP is mainly known for its work with bands such as Bon Iver and Broken Social Scene to create unique t-shirt designs (like this one here) to benefit various charities. There is nothing more dope than this from their mission statement: “We seek out only the coolest of cool artists, collaborate with them to design awesomely awesome tee-shirts, and give all the prettiest of pretty profits to charities of the artists’ choice.”
But not just any band gets to be apart of this ultra chic collective, YBP Founders Matt Stotland and Casey Cohen told TakePart.com in a recent interview, the music has to be solid as well as the specific bands intent to help the community, ”From the beginning, our approach has been to choose bands that we liked most, bands that we thought were creative and conscious enough to make a difference.”
But they’ve gone the extra mile by creating this wonderful book filled with illustrations void of color so you can let your artistic expression run free. UK based artist and musician Andy J Miller worked with the aforementioned bands The Shins and MGMT to conceptualize the book inspired by said artists’ music.
To promote the launch of the book — YBP hosted a series of launch events in bookstores across California, New York City and Montreal with concert performances by Ra Ra Riot and Elvis Perkins. All proceeds go to the Yellow Bird Project and its network of charities as well as Housing Works, the nation’s largest community-based AIDS service organization.
