One of America’s favorite TV dads, Tom Bosley, died of heart failure on Tuesday. The 83-year-old is best remembered for his role as Howard Cunningham, the father on the ’70s sitcom Happy Days. He became a television star through Murder, She Wrote and Father Dowling Mysteries. In 1960, Boswell made a splash on Broadway when he won a Tony Award for the musical Fiorello!
The Chicago-born actor was very loved by Happy Days cast. While co-stars gushed about how wonderful, funny and talented he was, they also agree that he lead by example and was a true inspiration.
Director Ron Howard, who played his on-screen son, told the New York Daily News, “My last conversations with Tom reflected the love of life and peace of mind that he always maintained throughout his full and rewarding life. I miss him already.”
CNN reports that the family is asking people to make donations to their favorite cancer charity since Bosley struggled with lung cancer.
