Something to Crowe About

The British are getting used to seeing actor Russell Crowe around — he’s in the country filming Robin Hood.

Look, there he is taking his son to Peter Pan in London! And, there he is on the beach in Wales!

But a volunteer in a thrift shop near Ascot certainly wasn’t expecting to see the star. In fact, she didn’t even recognize him when he wondered in while on a break from filming. (He’s been spotted eating lunch several times at the cafe next door.)

Is the famously temperamental actor changing his tune? It seems so. The notoriously impatient Aussie calmly waited in line while staff was busy with other customers.

Then, according to the BBC, Crowe asked the shop if they accepted donations. The Oscar-winning star then wrote a £1,000 (about $1650) check. “She [the woman at the cash register] gave him the book to fill in his name and he wrote Russell Crowe,” manager Julia Deane told the BBC.

Clearly Crowe is in a generous mood these days. Earlier this month he gave one of the workers on his film set £5,000 ($8,245) so she could buy a new car. This actor takes getting into character quite seriously, for surely Robin Hood himself would approve.
