As you may have seen on Tonic, whether it’s blogs about Yahoo, Beyond Yoga, Lee Jeans or Ask.com, among many other participants, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and countless organizations are doing their part to help. Now you can add Saks Fifth Avenue to that list.
The specialty retailer is holding its annual “KEY TO THE CURE” shopping event October 15-18. This is the 11th year of the event, where Saks will donate 2 percent of its sales from this weekend (up to a quarter million dollars) to “local and national women’s cancer organizations and research centers,” according to this PR Newswire release. In addition, the retailer will make an additional half million dollar donation to its partnering organization for this year’s campaign, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
There is also a specially designed T-shirt (worn by Heidi Klum in the photo) created by designer Michael Kors for the campaign. It’s selling for $40 and more than 80 percent of the proceeds will go to charity. Klum, who recently gave birth to her fourth child, is the ambassador for the campaign.
Since 1999, when Saks began its charity shopping weekend, the company has given more than $32 million to support women’s cancer treatment and research.
