Scottish Family Reunited with Lost Cat After Six Years

140795678_cec396bb9f.jpgWhen Saffy the cat vanished from her home in Glasgow her owners thought they would never see their beloved pet again. Six years later, they got an unexpected phone call to say she had been found, injured but alive.

Susan Skillen and her two daughters could barely believe it when Scotland’s animal welfare charity, the SPCA called to tell them the happy news, reports the BBC. After months of extensive searching all those years ago, they had resigned themselves to the fact that Saffy had gone forever.  But thanks to the cat’s identity microchip, the rescue team were able to locate Saffy’s owners in no time at all.

Looking undernourished and frail when she was found, the cat is now back to full health, the only evidence of her departure in that part of her tail is missing. “I think she’s really happy to be home because she hasn’t made any attempt to leave the house and she’s staying close to me all the time,” said her owner, Skillen, who runs a cat and dog grooming business. “She remembered me straight away because as soon as I said her name she came running over to me,” she said.

Peter Fleming, manager at the SPCA’s Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Cardonald was thrilled to have been able to track down Saffy’s owners. “We were absolutely delighted to be able to reunite Saffy with her owner,” he said, adding: “We have previously reunited a cat with its owner after it was missing for three and a half years but Saffy’s story beats that record hands down.”

It’s a heart-warming tale indeed and shows that microchipping your pet really is worth every dollar.
