What is everyone obsessed about on this post-holiday Tuesday? Pyramids!
Yesterday the BBC aired a documentary which revealed that 17 pyramids were found under the earth in Egypt with the help of infrared photos taken by a NASA satellite.
Also more than 1,000 tombs and 3,000 ancient settlements were discovered from the birds eye view images. The reason why the scientists were able to spot the ancient structures is because Egyptians used dense mud to build, which show a clear distinction between their temples and looser soil.
“To excavate a new pyramid is the dream of every archaeologist”, said Egyptologist, Dr. Sarah Parcak. “During the year we held a very intensive research. Of course, I was constantly monitoring the flow of information, but there came a moment when I suddenly realized how many things we were able to find. I just could not believe that so many new objects were discovered in Egypt.”
