Sing Your Way to the Tony Awards Red Carpet

picture_2.pngWe’ve all heard the expression “sing for your meal,” now get ready to sing for something even better: the chance to walk the red carpet at the 64th annual Tony Awards on June 13. Macy’s and CBS, which airs the awards, have teamed up to launch an online contest where aspiring Broadway performers can enter to win a trip to the Tonys and a $1,000 Macy’s gift card so they can look red-carpet ready.

Think you’ve got the chops? Upload a video of yourself singing one of the following songs by May 27 at 3 p.m.:

“96,000,” In the Heights
“Gimme, Gimme,” Thoroughly Modern Millie
“Good Morning, Baltimore,” Hairspray
“I’m Gonna Wash that Man Right Outa my Hair,” South Pacific
“Lonely Goatherd,” The Sound of Music
“Maybe,” Annie
“One,” A Chorus Line
“Stars,” Les Misérables
“Ya Got Trouble,” The Music Man

Public voting for five finalists will take place online from from May 27 at 3 p.m. through June 1 at midnight. On June 3, the five finalists will be announced and then flown to New York City for a live sing-off at Macy’s Herald Square. The sing-off will be judged by a panel of Broadway stars and experts who, along with the online votes, will help choose the two winners that will walk the Tony Awards red carpet outside Radio City Music Hall on June 13.

Thinking of entering? The competition is heating up; you can watch videos that have already been submitted on CBS’ Tony website. You can also watch the original Annie, Andrea McArdle, perform her rendition of “Maybe,” and Priscilla Lopez, star of the original A Chorus Line, performing “One.”

And who knows what else could come from this opportunity. In the age of star Internet discoveries, you may very well be the first Justin Bieber or Greyson Michael Chance of the Great White Way.
