Skateboarding School for War Stricken Afghan Youth

Oliver Percovich, 35, arrived in Kabul three years ago pursuing a love interest, and when that didn’t work out he decided to open a skateboarding school called Skateistan. Percovich teaches all kinds of fun tricks to about 300 young Afghan boys and girls a week with the hope that it will provide them with new opportunities in cross cultural interaction, education and self-confidence. The program rapidly grew from three skateboards and no building, to a free, indoor skate park open six days a week, funded by $600,000 in donations.
