Make no mistake, Sofia Vergara is much more than just a pretty face.
Sure, she’s married to the erstwhile Al Bundy on the insanely popular, Emmy award-winning comedy Modern Family. But she’s way more than just a set of lusty curves and a sexy accent.
Vergara, a Colombia native, is also a cancer survivor — and an extremely charitable individual — who is using her unique talents to raise money during tonight’s Stand Up to Cancer telethon.
Clearly, this is a cause close to her heart. In 2000, the bombshell was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, which she beat with a combination of surgery and radiation.
The experience sparked her involvement with a charity foundation named Peace and Hope for the Children of Colombia. A mother herself, Vergara has been affiliated with the organization for nine years and helped raise funds to assist thousands of children in her native country. She also helped to raise money for a pediatric cancer pavilion in her native Barranquilla and taken underprivileged kids to the ultimate kiddie destination — Disney World!
In 2004 the fashionable Latina actress launched a clothing line called Vergara by Sofia, reportedly a socially-conscious brand that generated more than 1,500 jobs in her native country.
Want a piece of Vergara for yourself? The actress generously donated her stunning Carolina Herrera Emmy dress to the nonprofit Clothes Off Our Back. The auction ends Sept. 13th.
She has also teamed up with Gloria Estefan and other Latin celebs to record a single named “La Gota de la Vida” to raise money for the National Bone Marrow program.
That’s right — she’s not only beautiful and charitable, but she sings too.
