Sprint Reclaims its Environmental Chops

I was a Sprint customer for about a decade and the only complaint I have about the company is that they don’t have the iPhone. Let’s face it — no company is perfect. But, clearly, they’re trying to atone for this sin by releasing the Samsung Reclaim, the “first phone in the U.S. constructed from eco-friendly bio-plastic materials,” according to the company news release.

The phone, made from 80 percent recyclable materials, will be available on Aug. 16 for $49.99 (after various rebates) with a two-year service agreement. The packaging is also more environmentally friendly and instead of a paper user manual, the manual will be online. And to keep the environmental ball rolling, every time customers buy the phone from Sprint, they’ll be helping The Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program, supporting land conservation around the globe.

Sprint also announced some new environmental initiatives, including initiating “environmental design criteria” for future products and reducing paper usage 30 percent by 2014. You can find out more about Sprint’s green initiatives here.

Nicely done, Sprint.
