Stephen Colbert has been the talk of the town as his loyal fans march forth on their mission to make the comedian as viral as possible. Why?
As you may remember from all the recent media hoopla, Glenn Beck held a Restoring Honor rally with Sarah Palin to pay tribute to the nation’s heroes. He also raised $5 million for Special Operations Warrior Foundation, according to Beck’s website. Whether you think his rally was all bogus or not, Beck definitely drew attention to himself for a hot minute, and now many are ready to see Colbert take his turn, satirizing guns fully loaded.
The rally idea already has a website, Twitter account and Facebook group with more than 30,000 members. The tagline “Restoring Truthiness” has been at the top of Google Trends for hours. This all started when user mrsammercer posted a political rant on Reddit four days ago, which then got picked up by Huffington Post and has spread like wildfire ever since.
It is uncertain if Colbert will partake in the rally since he has not yet commented on the campaign, but it should be remembered that Betty White hosted Saturday Night Live after a similar fan-based social media push.
If the event goes down as hoped, Colbert will be seen on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Oct. 10, 2010.
