The singing sensation who took the Internet by storm last year after appearing on Britain’s Got Talent has confirmed today that she’s going to perform for Pope Benedict XVI next month. As the Daily Record reports, Susan Boyle, 49, will sing three songs for the pope at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow, UK on Sept. 16, when he celebrates Mass.
So far, she’s chosen two songs: “I Dreamed a Dream,” the song that rocketed her to fame, and hymn “How Great Thou Art.” When the pontiff exits the park, which will likely be filled with 100,000 people, she’ll sing the third song, the title of which she won’t reveal until that day.
The Daily Record notes that Boyle used to volunteer for her church, and she “says the rosary every day and believes her faith forms the backbone of her life.” While her one regret is that her mother, who passed away in 2007, won’t be present, Boyle was quoted, “It is my greatest dream come true” to sing for the pope. But Boyle added about her mother Bridget, “Spiritually, she will be with us.”
The event, one of great importance to Scottish Catholics, will be televised and is estimated to attract a billion people worldwide.
