Taylor Swift and Ke$ha, Different As Night And Day, But Both Show Nashville LoveTaylor Swift is putting her money where her heart is, donating $500,000 to help victims of the Nashville flooding.
“Being at home during the storm, I honestly could not believe what was happening to the city and the people I love so dearly,” Swift told the Associated Press in an e-mail. “Nashville is my home, and the reason why I get to do what I love. I have always been proud to be a Nashvillian, but especially now, seeing the love that runs through this city when there are people in crisis.”
Taylor’ polar opposite, pop star, Nashville native and the Ernie to Taylor’s Bert, Ke$ha, has also announced a flood benefit concert on June 16 at Limelight in Nashville.
Officials estimate that Nashville rebuilding will cost more than $1 billion.

If you’ve ever wanted to be invited to Alec Baldwin‘s place for Thanksgiving turkey, the right way to go about it is to swing by one of Mariska Hargitay‘s benefits. On Wednesday night, the Law and Order SVU lady cop threw her annual benefit for her foundation. Joyful Heart, which helps victims of domestic and sexual abuse.
Mariska’s best buddy Alec worked the room like a rock star, inviting dozens of guests to his place for turkey in November. It made everyone feel like family, as did Mariska’s requirement that all attendees wear jeans. Yes, jeans … to a benefit!
The confusing part of the evening was that everywhere I looked I wasn’t sure if I was seeing someone I knew or a cast member of Law and Order. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the two apart. Chris Meloni was very cool about me mistaking him for my high school gym teacher.
The kind of work Mariska does with the foundation is stuff she deals with daily on the set of SVU, so the dress code actually made a lot of sense and her friends Debra Messing and Hilary Swank looked even more glamorous in jeans than in black-tie. True story.
“The charity was born out of what I have had to deal with for so long with the story lines of the show. After receiving letters from victims disclosing to me their personal stories I realized I wanted to do something about it and I felt like I had something to offer and my answer was this foundation,” Mariska told me.
This woman truly does it all. On top of her 15-hour tapings of one of the most popular shows on television, she commits herself to this foundation in ways that a lot of bold-facers who just sign checks and pose for pretty pictures would never do, plus she knows how to throw a seriously good party. Did we mention Cyndi Lauper performed “True Colors” in the middle of dinner?
