Ellen’s Stamp of Approval
Ellen DeGeneres is the new Bob Barker of the animal world. Like the famous game show host, the talk show host and American Idol‘s latest staple continues to do what she can to support help household pets. Ellen partnered with the US Postal Service to launch commemorative stamps featuring the innocent faces of formerly stray dogs and cats. The 2010 social awareness campaign stamps, Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet, will be available in post offices nationwide starting April 30, and can be pre-ordered at stampstotherescue.com.
Never Underestimate the Gift of a Smile
Similar to Operation Smile (the philanthropy closest to Jessica Simpon’s heart), Smile Train is a nonprofit organization that repairs cleft lips and palates of underprivileged children around the world, giving life to a child who would otherwise be ostracized. Law & Order: SVU star Christopher Meloni made a $250 donation to Smile Train — all that it takes to complete an entire surgery for a child. He was subsequently contacted by the organization, and last year went on a mission to Haiti where he saw the difference a $250 donation could make. He said, “When you’re in that state of mind, when kindness is shown and a good results occurs, there is great joy and celebration. A life is truly changed.” Check out what else he had to say here.
Footballers Entertaining in the Off-Season
Dhani and I have dinner at Dominick’s during his day in LA
The only downtime Cincinnati Bengals player Dhani Jones is getting off season this year will be on a beach in Brazil — practicing beach volleyball as part of his mission to learn sports indigenous of the countries he visits on his Travel Channel show Dhani Tackles the Globe. I saw Dhani the other night, a little beat up after a fight for the show in Mexico City Sunday, and he said he does the show because, “I just want to make people laugh and make people cry with thought-provoking questions.” In a few days he’s off to Nepal for 10 days to learn another sport. The second season premieres April 19. Take a ride with Dhani to learn water polo in Croatia or pour the perfect pint of Guinness in Ireland. Meanwhile, his teammate Chad Ochocinco tackles the dance floor (and the hearts of millions of viewers) taking on Dancing with the Stars, premiering Monday.
Cute Couple of the Day

It was 1988 when Danica McKellar won over America’s hearts as Winnie Cooper in the The Wonder Years. Danica continues to take the odd acting gig but has primarily turned her attention to mathematics in the 17 years since the show ended. While finishing her third book of theorems, Danica has said she suspected she could be pregnant but that, “I wanted to put off the [pregnancy] test because I didn’t want any distractions.” Although she admits, “That only lasted a day — I couldn’t stop thinking about it and I caved! You can’t try to put that off.” Danica McKellar and her husband, Mike Verta, who began dating in 2001, confirmed Wednesday that they’re expecting their first child in the fall.” Danica’s book Hot X: Algebra Exposed, will arrive in August.
