It all started when 85-year-old Hilda Back from Sweden gave $15 a month to sponsor Chris Mburu from Kenya, allowing him to go to grammar and secondary school. Since then, he has graduated from Harvard Law School and started his a foundation in Back’s name.
HBO‘s A Small Act directed by Jennifer Arnold documents the first meeting between Mburu and Back and the fantastic domino effect that her small action has on future generations in Africa. Arnold said, “It can be something simple, like donating toward a cause, or a bigger commitment to bringing about change … It doesn’t take much — just do something.”
A Small Act airs July 12 on HBO.
