The Naughty Chef Gets Cooking

Watching cooking shows can be a bit of a meditation. You can watch the TV chef dice, stir, chop and shred and it’s almost relaxing. Reality-TV cooking shows are not so much the same way, and they’re about to get even less so with the debut of “The Naughty Chef, ” on the Oxygen network.

Chef Blythe Beck is the larger-than-life Texas gal who runs the kitchen at Central 214 in the Hotel Palomar in Dallas, TX offering big meals with a side of an even bigger-sized personality.

While there’s, of course, nothing wrong with the very TV-friendly lady chefs like Giadia DeLaurentiis or Nigella Lawson, there is something decidedly refreshing in that Chef Beck looks nothing like that, and sounds not unlike Chris Farley.

In the video promo for the show (premiering next Tues. Sept. 22nd at 10 pm), she describes her “sexy, New American cuisine,” as being made “with beer, bacon and lots of love.”

The recipes included economically-minded (read: stalwarts of the New South instead of trendy Nouveau Cuisine) dishes such as Spicy Cheese Grits, Southern Fried Chicken and Naughty Creamed Corn, which you can find here.

Like Chef Beck says, ” When you eat my food, you’re not being bad, you’re being just a little bit naughty.”

This brand of naughty sounds pretty nice, actually.
