The Neptunes Get Another Shot at Jacko

Pitchfork Media recently posted an interesting piece of music history trivia that epitomizes the idea that “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Did you know the Neptunes submitted tracks for Michael Jackson’s 2001 comeback album Invincible? Sounds like a natural fit, right? M.J. shot them down. Guess who picked up the scraps? Justin Timberlake nabbed several of those tracks for solo debut, “Justified.” I hear that album did pretty good.

How ironic that Timberlake, who seems on track to become the white man’s M.J., saw gold where his idol did not. Imagine how history could have been much different for both artists..

Trivia aside, the ‘Tunes — Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo — are finally getting to give M.J. a bit of their beepin’ magic on the forthcoming tribute disc Michael Jackson: The Remix Suite. According to MTV, the production duo will remix the Jackson 5 track “Never Can Say Goodbye.” The remix album, slated for Oct. 27 and potentially long holiday sales streak, will also feature contributions from Dallas Austin, Salaam Remi, Q-Tip, Tricky Stewart and Stargate, among others.
