This is not the set-up to a dirty joke: two brothers and their childhood friend are all priests, and are in a band called, what else, The Priests.
As The Priests, Fathers Martin and Eugene O’Hagan and Father David Delargy are in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the fastest-selling classical debut album of all time. They released their sophomore effort last week, called Harmony, on RCA Victor.
These full-time priests are going to have to clear their schedules if their current trajectory holds up, but that doesn’t mean they won’t make it back to the pulpit. Unlike most band contracts, which stipulate things like cases of scotch, cartons of cigarettes and only green M&Ms, or whatever the case may be, The Priests have it in writing that their promotional schedule never interfere with their pastoral duties. Additionally, the press release states, a majority of their proceeds from record sales is given to charity.
These platinum-selling Priests don’t even wear leather pants, but they sure are getting the job done.
Can we get an “Amen!” to that?
