This Just In: World Cup Host Cities for 2018 and 2022

FIFA.jpgWe know that Spain came out on top of this year’s World Cup in South Africa and will try to defend its title in 2014 on Brazilian soil. But where will soccer fans be looking in 2018 and 2022?

England, Spain/Portugal, Russia and Belgium/Netherlands had bid to host in 2018, while it was between Australia, the US, Japan, Qatar and South Korea for 2022.

This morning, at a press conference in Zurich, the FIFA Executive Committee announced that it had chosen Russia to host in 2018 and Qatar in 2022.

FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter said, “For 2018 and 2022 we go to new lands, because the FIFA World Cup has never been in eastern Europe or the Middle East. So, I’m a happy president when we speak of the development of football.”
