Oooh, all you campfire girls and boys listen up!
You know how the best part of the great outdoors and being one with nature is actually the tasty treats like s’mores that you get to make over the hot coals of the campfire?
And maybe you’ve put that latest camping trip on the back (Bunsen) burner because of too hectic schedules, too lacking funds, or whatever, so you’re itching for something reminiscent of that time away?
Look no further than this new (and healthier) spin on the camping favorite: banana s’mores.
What?! That sounds … bananas, you might be saying right now. Why mess with the classic?
Well, why not especially one for which half the fun of eating it is the nostalgia factor of the graham cracker sandwich part. So what you’ve traded (high-fructose corn syrup-laden) marshmallows for bananas?!
Let’s give a look, shall we?
VegCookingBlog.com (devoted to the culinary pursuits of the vegan kind) points out that this recipe ups the vitamin and mineral quotient by using the bananas. But don’t worry, the chocolate sauce (vegan, or not, it’s up to you, really) is still there in all of its chocolately goodness!
Banana S’mores
1 vegan chocolate bar
4 vegan graham cracker sheets
2 bananas, sliced
- Cut or break the chocolate bar into 4 equal parts.
- Break each graham cracker sheet into 2 equal parts, along the perforated line, so that you have 8 equal-size squares.
- Make a sandwich using 2 graham cracker squares and 1 chocolate square in between, then heat in the microwave for 30 to 45 seconds, or until the chocolate just begins to melt.
- Remove from the microwave, open the sandwich, and add 1/4 of the banana slices to the sandwich. Then close and serve while the chocolate is warm.
