In the market for a new watch? Sure, picking up a really good one can be a major investment, but these days, at least you know that investment’s (comparatively) solid. And if you choose a timepiece from IWC, you can feel good about more than just your bottom line … since you’ll also be supporting a company for which the philanthropy is a top priority.
IWC’s unofficial business model is “doing well by doing good.” Since the company invented the first pilot’s watch back in the 1930s, some of that outreach helps flight-related charities like Angel Flight, which flies adults and children that need medical care to hospitals free of charge. IWC is one of that non-profit’s main sponsors.
This year, IWC is also helping Adventure Ecology, the environmental protection agency founded by David de Rothchild. This summer, de Rothchild and a handpicked crew are sailing across the Pacific Ocean in a special boat made from plastic bottles and recycled waste products. The route, which runs between San Francisco and Sydney, intentionally goes through large areas of man-made waste, including the The Great Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch, to draw attention to the importance of environmental protection. IWC has created the extra-sturdy watch that’s pictured for de Rothchild to wear on the trip. It’s also available to land lubbers as a special (and highly collectible) limited edition.
If this timepiece is like IWC’s other limited editions, it will sell out fast (and appreciate quickly), so if you’re interested, now’s the time to pick this up. Because, as the saying goes, time is money.
