Civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke these powerful words on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC on Aug. 28, 1963:
“I have a dream, that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
Millions share this dream of universal equality, peace, love, non-violence and freedom. King brought this vision to life through his persistence, conviction and passion for a better life for all. We can only hope to continue to grow together in this direction as a unified society.
Google’s homepage has joined the celebration by highlighting an image on its homepage of his dream — children of all races, joyfully playing hopscotch together.
Other than granting you a day off from work or school, do you really know what King did for our society? The Christian Science Monitor has a fun 10-question quiz to see how much you know about this national holiday. Take it here.
Take a moment today to remember the beauty and power of this man, what he represents and how you can manifest this common dream for a better future in some way, small or big, in your life.
