If you are a woman and live in Burlington, Vermont, congratulations!
According to a story from Self magazine, the city ranks as the number one healthiest place to live in the US for women. What makes Burlington so good? For starts, it has six times as many organic food producers and close to three times as many food co-ops than the survey average. After looking at 100 different cities for lifestyle (including how active the people are, rate of smoking and diet), the rest of the metro areas that made the cut include:
Bethesda, Maryland
Portland, Maine
Cambridge, Massachusetts
San Francisco, California
Honolulu, Hawaii
Stamford, Connecticut
Madison, Wisconsin
Santa Barbara, California
Fargo, North Dakota
- Not only is Hawaii a near-Utopian place to live, but women in Honolulu have the lowest chance of dying from breast cancer on the list, and their diet is largely comprised of seafood and fish, instead of red meat.
- The women in Madison, Wisconsin log in more exercise time than anywhere else, according to the survey. 85 percent of them work on their fitness, earning them the lowest average body-mass index (BMI) of all the areas.
- Santa Barbara, California can boast one of the lowest rates of smoking: Only 9 percent of women do it.
