On Halloween night, an unlikely cast of characters descended upon the White House lawn: 2,000 children all dressed up in costumes!
According to a story on MSNBC.com, the President and First Lady invited students from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia to come trick-or-treating. The event also featured outdoor activities and entertainment for kids and their families (so the little ghouls wouldn’t get too impatient while waiting for their candy).
The White House’s North Portico was decorated with a large, stuffed, black spider and several pumpkins, a rare sight given the residence’s usual prim and proper appearance.
After the festivities for local youngsters, the Obamas joined Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, in the East Room for a Halloween reception for military families and moms and dads who work in the White House (plus their kids, of course).
We’re hoping that kiddies who scored an invite to the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity were treated to some full-sized, candy bars — none of that so-called fun-sized nonsense doled out by most folks.
