Despite having both legs severed following a car accident … In January, 2007, Tyler Carron was out with friends in Berthoud, Colo., when the Isuzu Trooper they were in got a flat tire. When they pulled over, Carron and a friend, Nikko Landeros, got out to change the tire. As they looked for a jack in the back of the Trooper, a Toyota Land Cruiser driven by a classmate came over the hill and smashed right into them. Both were thrown into the air — and both had their legs severed. As Denver Magazine notes, the two “have endured more than 20 combined surgeries, medical setbacks and gawking children.” And now, both walk courtesy of legs made of carbon fiber and plastic.
… he became a top-notch sled hockey player … Both Carron and Landeros were wrestlers in high school, but have since turned their attention to sled hockey. Along with playing golf, skiing and wake-boarding, Carron has also gotten into bodybuilding. The 21-year-old met a bodybuilder (Michael Alexander) back in April, inspiring Carron to hit the weights. This past weekend, Carron competed in the Warrior Classic. a bodybuilding competition in Loveland, Colo. While he may have finished fifth out of five competitors, as the Denver Post notes, “some of the points are awarded for leg muscles.” But, Carron was given the Heart of a Warrior award at the event, for “his determination and inspiration.”
