UK UFO Unit Closes

alien_soap.jpgThe global recession has forced plenty of organizations to trim the fat. You know, stuff like expense accounts, air travel and car service, and in the case of the British Ministry of Defense, the investigation of UFOs.

According to Reuters, cost-cutting in the UK government has meant the end of the UFO investigation unit after 50 years of fielding and looking into reports from the public about alleged sightings. The one officer who was handling all of the reports has been re-assigned.

And like a great episode of the “X-Files,” the ministry has come out with a tantalizingly mysterious explanation. Well, that, or they just didn’t find any aliens.

The ministry said, “it had found no evidence of a threat to Britain or proof of the existence of extra-terrestrials.” But the ministry adds that the unit had “no specific capability for identifying the nature of such sightings.”

And even if they did, they couldn’t tell us.
