You would think that getting ready for the Olympics would be enough for world-class athletes, but you would be wrong. In fact, a couple of American female Olympians are thinking about their underwear businesses, too.
ABC News reports that Alpine skier Julia Mancuso has a new underwear line that she calls Kiss My Tiara. The business idea apparently sprang from lucky underwear she wore at the ’02 Olympics in Salt Lake City, while the tiara angle is courtesy of the “Super Jule” crown she wore following her gold at the ’06 Olympics in Turin. She’s hoping to expand the underwear line into other lingerie and will be giving out both thongs and boy shorts to people at the Vancouver Games.
And then comes news today from the Huffington Post that snowboarder Hannah Teter, who won gold in the halfpipe at the ’06 Games, is using her Sweet Cheeks Panties line to not only make a little money for herself, but also to help Doctors Without Borders. That’s because each pair sold results in a $5 donation to the group, with Teter hoping to raise $100,000 by May. According to the New York Times, Teter has a long history of generosity, including donating prize money she’s won on the snowboarding tour.
We at Tonic will be cheering for both women during these Winter Games, for their ability as athletes and for their business savvy.
