In an effort to get people excited about its electric car, NPR reports that Chevrolet is having a contest for people to name the car’s color. The company says the car is silver with an emerald hue. In a press release, Chevrolet says they are “looking for a color name that captures the innovation and spirit of the Volt.”
But if the comment section of DailyTech.com’s post about the contest is any indication, the public may actually tell Chevy more about their feelings for the company than about the car’s colors. For example, what does the public think about the Volt coming years after Toyota’s well-loved electric car, the Prius? Suggested color names for the Volt include: “White Wannabe,” “Red Rice Replica” and even “Purple Prius Ponzi.”
And don’t think people have forgotten about Chevy parent General Motor’s bailout. They’re suggesting colors like “Bankrupt Silver,” “Epic Failure Red,” “Government Grey” or the alliterative “Bailout Blue.”
“The idea,” a Chevy spokesperson says, “is to invite consumers into the development process of the Chevy Volt.”
Of course, it might be more information than Chevy was asking for.
