BRAC helps empower people with limited resources in an effort to reduce poverty in developing countries. To share the organization’s good works BRAC entered the ViewChange Online Film Contest, where professional and amateur filmmakers were asked to submit a five minute film. The hope is to raise awareness, inspire action and share how progress is being made around the world in achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Student interns from BRAC submitted We Are Powerful, a film about women in Bangladesh who are transforming the way the community treats them, thanks to integrated BRAC programs. Many of the women featured in the short firm are survivors of rape, forced marriage and abuse from their husbands. Through learning about their own human rights, and acquiring valuable skills, they have gained more respect in their villages.
Winners in each category will receive $5,000 and the grand prize is $20,000. Watch the video below and vote for BRAC’s short film here. Voting ends Sept.15.
