I haven’t had a dog since the mid-’70s. We had a Siberian husky and he was, if I may say so, all sorts of awesome. His awesomeness has since guaranteed that, should I ever get a dog again, it’ll have to be a Siberian husky.
One of the best routes for getting a dog has to be a shelter, because you know those are the dogs that will truly appreciate being taken home. Since October is “Adopt a Shelter Dog” month, as promoted by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the American Humane Society, next month is as good a time as any to surprise someone with a new pet.
Unfortunately, because of the tough economy still bearing down on a lot of people, there are even more pets in shelters than usual, since many people can’t afford to keep them. So in the pursuit of making dogs in shelters more adoption-friendly, Wag’n Tails is providing free grooming services to animal shelters throughout October.
The company offers mobile groomers, so it will have its pet stylists give “professional doggie ‘make-overs,’” according to this PR Newswire release. And as company president Dennis Gnetz is quoted, “If we can increase the odds of a dog finding a loving home by giving it [a] groom from a professional stylist then we are willing to do what we can.”
Not only will they be helping all sorts of dogs, but they’ll also give the person who grooms the most shelter pets a five-day Caribbean vacation. Decent added motivation, huh?
