Today is the birthday of Swiss psychiatrist and founder of analytical psychology, Carl Jung, who lived from July 26, 1875 until June 6, 1961. Jung’s most famous concept, the collective unconscious, has had a deep influence not only on psychology, but also on philosophy and the arts.
Although he was a theoretical psychologist, much of his life’s work was spent exploring other areas, including Eastern and Western philosophy, alchemy, astrology, sociology and literature.
