Washington Post Announces Annual “Peeps Show” Winners

Even if you don’t like to eat ‘em (Peeps seem to be one of those strong love or strong hate foods), chances are you have some sort of affinity for marshmallow Peeps. Let’s face it: they’re adorable; and they remind everyone of their youth when seasonal candy confections were a major highlight. Rows of pastel-colored, sugar-coated chicks or bunnies that come nestled in rows in precious little cardboard homes? Or, if you’ve got an appetite for destruction: marshmallows you can put in the microwave (just check out the number of sites devoted to Peep-nuking).

For the past few years, the Washington Post has helped Americans take their love of Peeps to a whole new level with their annual Peep Diorama Contest, a.k.a. the “Peeps Show” (and the punning doesn’t stop there, just check out this Flickr photo I uncovered this week called “Let My Peeple Go”). This year’s entries were truly superlative. The winner was inspired by Pixar’s Up, and parts of the diorama were even made from salvaged materials like mattress springs. Scroll through the gallery of finalists and prepare to be amazed, amused and suddenly craving sugar.
