What a difference a couple of months make. In early April, the news was filled with reports of the devastating Italian earthquake in L’Aquila. Two months later — as the area’s citizens are still trying to (literally!) rebuild their lives — other breaking stories are in the spotlight and the zeitgeist has moved on.
Fortunately, the folks at Ferragamo — the luxury goods company that’s as Italian as a pasta and prosecco — haven’t forgotten L’Aquila’s victims. A selection of the brand’s bags that were owned by some of the world’s biggest stars — including Madonna, Jennifer Aniston and Demi Moore — are now up on eBay, with 100 percent of proceeds going to GlobalGiving’s Italy Earthquake Recovery and Relief Fund. (And if you’re wondering whose glamorous closet this bag came from, it’s Gwyneth Paltrow’s.)
In the “credit where credit’s due” department, the auction is being managed by Auction Cause, to ensure every cent raised helps the people of L’Aquila. And if you’re worried about the authenticity of the bags, fear not: Each bag comes with a handwritten note from the celebrity to the buyer. (How cool is that?)
If you’re planning on one designer accessory purchase this summer, you can feel really good about buying one of these, since it was totally owned by … helps others. That’s right.
The Ferragamo charity auction ends this Thursday at 7 p.m. PST — so log on and start bidding!
