If you eat your Wheaties, you probably know about the cereal’s association with sports. My first memory of seeing a Wheaties box was in 1976, when Bruce Jenner appeared on the box. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star had found instant fame following his gold medal win in the decathlon at the Summer Games in Montreal. A moment of silence, please, for Mr. Jenner’s career.
There have been numerous other Olympians who have since graced the glorious orange box, including gymnast Mary Lou Retton, decathlete Dan O’Brien and swimmer Michael Phelps. Today it was announced that three more would be joining their ranks — gold medalists Lindsey Vonn, Shaun White and Seth Wescott. Vonn even put up a picture of herself with her Wheaties box on Facebook. According to MSNBC, Vonn is the first female alpine skier to do so, while White and Wescott will be the first snowboard and snowboard cross athletes.
And after their performances in Vancouver, it’s not much of a surprise. Tonic congratulates all three of them for this honor.
