Whip It Up: Recipes for Beauty Done Green

The beauty industry is a multi-billion dollar one, which means there’s a whole lotta cosmetics out there. The “green” beauty industry is not. And while it may never reach the level of consumer frenzy that the big conventional brands bring, with awareness comes demand.

Julie Gabriel is one such optimist of the increasing desire women have to not slather on chemical-laden, sulfate-saturated and lead-leaning products on their faces and bodies. With alternatives out there, why not lessen your toxic load, right?

Gabriel a former beauty editor at magazines and for CNN, The Daily Green writes, gave up the mainstream for the alternative by launching her own line of cosmetics, Petite Marie Organics and has put out The Green Beauty Guide for all those non-synthetic seekers.

Her recipes for glowing skin include delights such as an oatmeal and onion mask for acne-free skin, a good enough to eat yogurt scrub containing almonds, brewer’s yeast and honey and an apple cider and aspirin toner to brighten your complexion.

All without the unfriendly fake things that, truly, we don’t really know the possible long term effects of. (Not forgetting of course that beauty products are hardly –if at all– regulated by the FDA.
