The Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy have released their annual lists of the most and least fuel-efficient cars, SUVs, vans and trucks for model year 2009.
The most fuel efficient? No surprises here. The Toyota Prius tops the list (again) with mpg 48 highway/45 city. Drum roll please…without further adieu, here are the most fuel-efficient cars on the market – mileage is listed as mpg highway/mpg city:
- Toyota Prius (hybrid) 48/45
- Honda Civic Hybrid 40/45 (same as 2008)
- Nissan Altima Hybrid 35/33
- Ford Escape Hybrid FWD / Mazda Tribute Hybrid 2WD / Mercury Mariner Hybrid FWD 34/31
- Smart Fortwo Convertible / Smart Fortwo Coupe 33/41
- Toyota Camry Hybrid 33/34
- Volkswagen Jetta (manual, diesel) / Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagon (manual, diesel) 30/41
- Volkswagen Jetta (auto, diesel) / Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagon (auto, diesel) 29/40
- Toyota Yaris (manual) 29/36
- Toyota Yaris (auto) 29/35
Now, for the fun part. Announcing the least fuel-efficient cars for 2009 models. If you desire to have people look at you with scorn, spend a fortune on fuel, look like an ass (but feel like you have a bigger you-know-what) — these are the cars for you. Again, these vehicles are listed mpg highway/mpg city.
