Aside from the primal urges and “it’s just nature at work” explanations, why do women have sex?
CNN.com reports that psychologists Cindy Meston and David Buss, both of whom are professors at the University of Texas at Austin thought there are at least 237 different reasons why.
237!
Going on their assumptions that women have sex for reasons ranging from curing a headache (there goes that excuse not to do it) to a sense of obligation to (gasp) to feeling like they have “more notches on their belt.” (And, let’s not forget the lady who wanted to sell her virginity to the highest bidder.)
Meston and Buss have put together their study, which included asking 1000 women over a period of nearly three years their reasons for having sex, into a book that came out last week called, “Why Women Have Sex.”
A conclusion that is perhaps not so shocking? That a woman’s sexual experience is inextricably linked to her feelings of self-esteem. Meaning, for some sex makes them feel euphoric and alive; for others, it has devastating effects on their self-worth.
And dudes, listen up: if you’re wondering how to best get your lady in the mood, give her a kiss. Only 15 percent of women said they would even consider sex without kissing first.
