Nicole Faria Crowned Miss Earth 2010

miss-earth.jpg

For the 10th year in a row, beautiful, smart, talented and environmentally-aware women competed for the title of Miss Earth. This year the pageant was held in Vietnam. On Dec. 4, 20-year-old Nicole Faria from India beat out 83 contestants for the crown.

Speaking of the crown … last year it was redesigned by Ramona Haar, an environmentalist jeweler, and was made completely of recycled metals and stones donated from each country participating in the competition.

What makes Miss Earth different than Miss Universe or Miss World is that each woman is passionate about the environment and works closely with organizations that support a greener planet.

Along with the traditional swimsuit and evening gown segments of the competition, the beauties are also required to meet with the judges, makeup-free, to speak about their environmental concerns and plan of action.

This year’s pageant raised money to be donated to the Red Cross in support of Vietnam’s recent flood.

Congrats Nicole Faria! We hope you make big changes in the next year!
