You’re going to wish THINK Global School was around when you were in high school. I sure do. Launching this fall, this mobile high school will give students the chance to study in twelve different cities around the world. Each trimester, they’ll move on to a different place with their teachers by their side, on the way to becoming true global citizens.
The school, a private, nonprofit high school, will follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and US curriculum and accreditation, and will use English as its language, according to a press release. Fifteen students from around the world will enter the first ninth grade class this fall and will spend the school year living in Stockholm, Sydney, and Beijing/Hong Kong. The 2011–12 school year will feature Kuala Lumpur, Berlin, and Santiago. The students will use facilities at a host school in each location.
One could argue that the students on this program won’t actually get to know any of these places but will simply be passing through on the way to the next stop. A trimester is hardly enough time to get any substantive understanding of a culture, but Aron Solomon, the school’s CEO and Head, says that it is important to provide students with broad international exposure.
“The world is rapidly evolving, making international dialogue and understanding more crucial than ever before,” Solomon said. “THINK Global School will prepare students for twenty-first century living and leading by taking global perspectives as the foundation of its curriculum and recognizing that we all, particularly children, learn best through doing.”
