Wrong Number Was Right Call for Stroke Victim

telephone.jpgMistakenly receiving a phone call intended for someone else can be really annoying. And let’s face it, most of the time once we realize the call is not intended for us we hang up pretty fast.

But when college student Taylor Booker randomly received a call last month she knew wasn’t meant for her, something prompted her to stay on the line and help the desperate-sounding stranger on the other end. And her benevolence just might have saved Annie Turner’s life.

“I honestly thought it was a prank call. It was a late Friday night, early Saturday morning. And that was the farthest thing from my mind, that something like this would happen. So when I realized that it was a serious call, it was a big deal,” Booker told The Early Show Saturday Edition on CBS.

Once she realized that the call was no joke, Booker sprang to action. Turner, who’d had a stroke, had trouble talking, so Booker noted the 510 area code on her caller ID and began ticking off towns until Turner indicated she had the right place, Richmond. She then used a friend’s phone to call 911 and got transferred to the Richmond Police Department. With Turner still on the phone, they were able to figure out her exact location and get her the help she needed, possibly in the nick of time.

Turner is now home from the hospital, and Booker recently visited her so Turner could thank her hero stranger in person.

“It was a very nice visit,” Booker said. “It was wonderful. She is a very sweet lady. She has her Bachelor’s in science, the same thing I’m working for. And it was just an inspiration.”

Booker’s amazing deed is certainly an inspiration to us, too.
