You Better Shop Around

Jimmy ChooThere’s nothing New Yorkers like better than getting a bargain — except, perhaps, getting a bargain and doing something good at the same time. So the Big Apple’s most fervent deal hunters — the fashion crowd — have plenty to celebrate this week, with two major sales that promise designer duds, deep discounts, and donations to a couple worthy causes.

This weekend, decadestwo (every Hollywood celeb’s not-so-secret source for recent vintage wear) is taking over the Kiki de Montparnasse boutique in Soho for its first-ever New York location. It’s a temporary pop-up store that will only be open through Sunday, and you can expect the crème-de-la-crème designer items decadestwo is known for, all at “I-scored-a-deal!” prices. Amongst the delicious Chanel bags and Christian Louboutin heels, you’ll also find pieces that came straight from the closets of celebrities like Julianne Moore or Selma Blair, who both consigned items for this sale. The boutique will kick off with a private shopping party on Thursday night, during which a portion of sales will be donated to the Ruth Ellis House, a Michigan center that helps young adults in need. So if you’re a fashion fan and are in New York this weekend, channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw and straight head down to Greene Street.

Farther uptown is Lighthouse International‘s annual POSH Designer Sale, a mecca for great deals from high end designers like Giorgio Armani, Donna Karan, Gucci, Hermes, and many, many more. All proceeds from the event will benefit people that are blind or visually impaired. It begins Thursday and goes on all weekend, but many POSH shoppers wouldn’t miss Wednesday night’s sneak preview cocktail party to get the best choice of goodies. Tickets to get in that early are $250 and $500 — but all that money goes to Lighthouse International, plus you can easily save that much if you’re a true shopaholic. (Can you tell that I’m trying to justify buying a Wednesday night ticket myself?)

So happy shopping! But keep your hands off this pair of Jimmy Choos … they’re mine.
